22. The eldest son was Rukmi. After him was born Rukmabāhu and then Rukmakeśa, Rukmamālin and the pious Rukmiṇī was their sister.

Rukminisha Vijaya is a mahakavya, rendered in the kāvya style, narrating the life of Krishna from boyhood, and ending with his marriage with Rukmini, his chief consort. 28-29. When in the days of yore the gods assembled on the summit of the mount Sumeru for incarnating their portions they said to Lakshmi: 'O you of spacious hip, do you with your husband go to the world of men. Just as Garuḍa snatched away his share (of nectar), Kṛṣṇa, in the very presence of kings invited on behalf of the Princess of Bhīṣmaka, carried away Rukmiṇī—his own Part (as she was an incarnation of Lakṣmī)—with a view to marry her by the Gāndharva form of marriage, thus setting his foot on the heads of the kings.

In Rukminishavijaya canto 14 Sreepad Vadiraja tirtharu says mata Rukmini was non other then Parashakti Sri Mahalakshmi herself who incarnated in the house of Bhishmaka only to reunite with lord Krishna but deluded by her illusory power king Bhismaka think her as daughter of him and Rukmi tried to separate her from Lord Krishna, so mata Rukmini write a letter to lord Krishna in which she revealed her true identity being Mahalakshmi herself and also ask him to take her away infront of those wicked and evil minded king who desired to marry her.

In Harivamsa she is known as Narayana Manohara (the goddess who steal the heart of Narayana) where in Srimad Bhagavatam Lord Krishna himself said his mind and heart always fixed on mata Rukmini only even the separation from mata Rukmini made him so restless that he didn't got a peaceful sleep for so many days.

47-48. Hearing that, the goddesses(queens of lord Krishna) began to speak into the ears of one another delightedly about Rukshmini’s accomplishments befitting her family. The king Bhishmaka, who, living in the city of Kundina, used to govern the southern quarter presided over by Agastya, had a son by name Rukshmi and a daughter by name Rukshmini.

May your journey be towards Rukmini (daughter of Bhismaka). She has Kasi in the form of her brows (or the place where she lives is kasi which is of the shape of a bow); the manasa lake in the form of the excellent navel (which is deep); the ganges in the form of her necklace (as both the ganges & the necklace are white, the former because of its contact with the dust of Sri Vishnu's feet& the latter because of pearls); the divine (yellow) Saraswathi in the form of the knot of the (yellow) saree; the (black) yamuna (daughter of the sun) in the form of the rows of (black) hair; kanci in the form of the waist shinning with the (waist-) gridle; the upper Badarikashrama in the form of the big breasts where are like the badari fruits; the cauvery (which is divided into two parts) in the form of the lustrous sidelook (of the two eyes); & the chandra Puskarini between the two sidelooks in the form of the (moon like) face.(59)

Of what use is there of Rugmi (my brother) or Bhismaka (my father) to you who are taking away me (Lakshmi), your eternal wife? Of what use are the others who are kings only in name?(48)

29. Śrīkṛṣṇa who practised supremely ideal righteous way of life of a house-holder, had sixteen thousand and one hundred queens.

30. Of those jewels of women, eight queens of whom Rukmiṇī was the foremost.

After the marriage of Sri Rukmini-Krishna in the Moolamadhav garden it became the unique and excellent holy places in the world.

18. Thereafter Prajapati’s son Narada said to Kama’s mother (Rukshmini):—"O goddess, O chaste lady, the flower is worthy of you.

2. The divine nature and characteristics of mata Rukmini according to Harivamsa and Srimad Bhagavatam.

Sri Krishna did the worship for the pacification of the nine (grahana) planets as though desirous of warding off the obstacles with Rukmini (daughter of Bhismaka) sitting in the form of Lakshmi on His laps.(61)

During marriage functions of mata Rukmini, peoples from bridegroom's side describes the capabilities of mata Rukmini and revealed her to be Swamini of 14 worlds who bestows riches to all gods.

According to Shrimad Bhagavatam, after Lord Krishna departed for his own abode, mata Rukmini and other wives of Lord Krishna entered the fire ( Agni pravesh) while meditating on Lord Krishna and returned to their abode and reunite with lord Krishna again.

After getting the letter of mata Rukmini lord Krishna immediately went to the city of Kundina.

Lord Krishna said: Just as the most beautiful Rukmiṇī has ever fixed her heart on Me.

consorts of Kṛṣṇa like Ṛukmiṇī and others with their hearts fixed on him entered the fire.

9. Gazing at her (Rukmini) who was goddess Lakṣmī herself who was exclusively devoted to him and had assumed a form suitable to the form sportively adopted by him, Lord Hari, being very much, pleased with her, smilingly spoke to her who appeared extremely charming with her countenance looking all the more beautiful with her curly locks of hair, ear-rings, gold necklace and her face splendidly beaming with nectar-like (sweet) smile.

On seeing that Sri Krishna who was filled with the sea of beauty the people of the town accompainied by their wives & with materials of worship in their hands at that time ignored the other valiant kings (such as SisupAla, JarAsandha & others) & rendered them useless (by worshipping Him who alone would fulfil their desires.(58)

Rukmiṇī said: You(Krishna) who are ever established in your own greatness, the glorious Lord of the trinity of gods and I who am Prakṛti (The Primordial Nature) consisting of three guṇas (sattva, rajas and tamas).

54. O deity of my house (and wealth)! How glad I am that you have borne to me a constant attachment and devotion which liberates from saṃsāra[11] and which is very difficult to practise for the wicked and still more so for deceitful women actuated by wicked tendencies and given to the gratification of low sensual appetites.

21. There was a great king called Bhīṣmaka, a powerful monarch of the Vidarbhas. He had five sons and only one charming looking daughter.

Sri Krishna whose arrival was unknown went away after taking up in His chariot His own Rukmini whose hairs stood on end out of joy (on seeing Him) & whose fully opened lotus like eyes were shedding tears of joy.

According to Both Harivamsa and Srimad Bhagavatam Mata Rukmini is considered as the youngest daughter of king Bhismaka and in beauty, intelligence, virtuous and in other excellences there is no one is equal to her.

While Sri Krishna (who has lotus like eyes) was living with His relatives in Dwaraka, a certain brahmin (son of a purohit) brought Him a letter sent by the birthless Rukmini.(38)

कुटुम्बस्येश्वरी त्वासीद्‌ रुक्मिणी भीष्मकात्मजा ॥ २७॥

O Lord Krishna! By taking the hand of Rukmini (daughter of King Bhismaka) in the moolamaadhava garden, make it in the world a unique holy place (as the excellence of all the holy places is achieved from your marriage with Rukmini here. We do not agree to the journey now, O, Krishna, in the case of you, who are all pervading.(60)

Rukmini, in order to show that her mind, like that of a bee on lotus, was pinned to Sri Krishna only makes a solemn vow & discloses her identity clearly. Oh, Lord Krishna! Brahma is equal to my son. Rudra (foe of the three worlds) is my grandson. The moon (with the marks of a hare) is my brother. Varuna, the lord of the ocean, is my father (though I am birthless). Cupid (the friend of the spring season) is my son. I (who am your Consort Lakshmi) am the mother of the whole universe.(43)

According to Rukminisha Vijaya all the holy places in the world resorted in the body of mata Rukmini.

Astrologers declared that any time is auspicious for Rukmini-Krishna's wedding as they have all auspiciousness in their body.

The narrative form of the work begins with the slokas that describe the legend of Brahma praying to Vishnu for incarnating on earth as Krishna, The second canto entails slokas that begin with Krishna's entry into Gokulam, the killing of Putana and Sakatasura, and their achievement of moksha. The next few cantos describe the aftermath of the deity's love-sport (Rāsakrīḍā) with the milkmaids, including his slaying of Shankacuda, Aristasura, and Keshi, Krishna's journey to Mathura, the slaying of his uncle Kamsa, his triumph over Jarasandha, from canto 14 to 19 describe his elopement and wedding with Mata Rukmini, and descriptions of the beauty of the divine couple.

Queen Rukmini the daughter of Bhiṣmaka, is the Goddess of Yadu family.

दिष्ट्या गृहेश्वर्यसकृन्मयि त्वया कृतानुवृत्तिर्भवमोचनी खलैः ।

24. The ladies in the harem were really astonished to see that a semi-nude Brāhmaṇa is worshipped with so much affection by Lord Kṛṣṇa of such a spotless reputation.

Where Harivamsa describe her as the Supreme goddess of whole Yadu clan (Kutumbh-ishwari). Srimad Bhagavatam describe her as the supreme goddess of lord Krishna's house (Gruha-ishwari).

35. Thereupon as did Rama lively happily with Sita, as Purandara lived with Saci, Puloma’s daughter so he enjoyed in the company of his sweet partner.

That delightful daughter of Bhismaka (Rukmini) is Lakshmi herself (as such beauty is not found in others). This is Lord Narayana (husband of Sri, the foremost of those having wealth etc... Let these two be united as husband & wife. THus, the people who came to see them prayed to Brahma who fulfils their wishes.(60)

43. O beloved wife of Hari, blessed is your life since Acyuta has conferred on you, this flower identical with the best collection of jewels of the three worlds".

In Harivamsa and Srimad Bhagavatam mata Rukmini is considered as the first and foremost wife of Sri Krishna.

4. She is described as Supreme goddess.

19. O you of firm vows, methinks you art worthy of wearing this flower, for coming in your contact, it has been perfectly adorned.

She is ocean of forgiveness, she even forgive her brother Rukmi who want to destroy her happiness by separating her from Lord Krishna and forcefully want her to merry that wicked Shisupal, just because he hate Lord Krishna. But even after this kind of behavior of Rukmi She saved Rukmi from Lord Krishna's wrath.

She is described as epitome of mercy, though she is mother of whole universe, she is Moolaprakriti who create this entire Universe but being an Bhakta vatsala she always take care of those devotees first who surrender to lord Krishna's lotus feet. In Srimad Bhagavatam when Brahman Sridaman after tiring from his poverty came to Dwaraka, with out caring her own supreme position mata Rukmini with lord Krishna serve him and bless him with all Opulence, this shows how mercy full she actually is.

31. O king, truly your daughter Rukshmini is not a woman; she is the very goddess Shri. For some object and at the words of Brahma she is born (as a woman).

22. O beautiful lady of sweet speech, this flower affords heat and cold as desired, and from it come out various wished-for juices.

33-34. On the day previous to that of the wedding, Rukshmini, gifted with all auspicious marks, after the performance of benedictory rites, shining in her beauty and on a car drawn by four horses and protected by soldiers, was going from her house to worship Indrani.

57. That a messenger with a secret clear-worded message was sent by you to secure me (as your consort), that you felt this whole world as void when (you felt that) I delayed and that then you wanted to cast away your body as not worthy of any other person (except me). This supreme love of yours (is impossible for me to repay) we can receive you gladly, hailing you with joy.

Kṛṣṇa cut down his sword and shield into sesamum-like particles with his arrows and taking up his sharp sword, he rushed forth bent on killing Rukmī.

In Harivamsa and Srimad Bhagavatam she is describes as the Soul of lord Krishna.

27. Beholding her brother lying down motionless on earth, Rukshmini, for his life, fell at Vishnu’s feet.

16. O king, Rukshmini was of matchless beauty on earth and therefore the highly effulgent Vasudeva desired to possess her as soon as he heard of it.

Prayers of Vidharbha's people to lord Brahma.

Jay Shri RukminiShyam 🙏

1. Hearing the message of Rukmiṇī, the princess of Vidarbha, Kṛṣṇa, the delight of Yadus, clasped the hand of the Brāhmaṇa and laughing heartily, he spoke to him.

32. Beholding his attempt to kill her brother, the virtuous Rukmiṇī was overwhelmed with fear. Falling at the feet of her consort, she piteously[5] entreated:

The astrologers speak of the moon in the faces of Sri Krishna & Rukmini (as their faces are beautiful & pleasing like the moon); of budha in their gentle smiles (as their smiles have light brightness like budha or because one becomes a wise man when they kindly & gently smile at one); of the tender, rising sun in their hands (which are red like the sun); of brahaspati in thier loins (which are hard or big); of their waists as the resort of sukra as it is a fit subject for description in one singel poetry in view of its many qualities); Mangala in the touch of their feet (which confer auspiciousness on those who touch them); ketu in the sole of their feet (as the sign of the standard is found there); sani in their gait (which is slow in movement); & Rahu in their lustre (which drives away darkness from those who look at the (divine) couple. Therefore, any time is auspicious for these two (Sri Krishna & Rukmini).(N. B. It may be noted that in the caswe of this couple the moon (chandra_ is in the face, budha (mercury) is in their smile; surya in their hands; guru or bruhaspati (Jupiter) in their loins;sukra (Venus) in their waist. Thus, these planets are always in elevated places (ucchastanas). Mangala or angaaraka is in their feet; ketu is the lower part (sole of their feet; Sani in their slow gait & Rahu (tamas) in their shadow on the ground. Therefore, any time is auspicious for them. There is no need to look into the auspiciousness of tiem for them.(46-47)

23. It is said that the queen Rukmiṇī herself, with a chowrie in her hand, fanned the ill-clad Brāhmaṇa of emaciated dusty body the veins of which were visible.

24. Kṛṣṇa also made up his mind to marry her as he knew her to be a suitable wife due to her intelligence, auspicious characteristics, nobility of heart, beauty, high character and other excellences.

42. O beautiful and glorious daughter of Bhoja (Rukmini), I know you to-day as the other soul of Krishna.

Oh, Lord Krishna ! I am not fit to be enjoyed by others. I am fit to worship your two feet. (Therefore) take me away. If not, by discarding this form of Rukmini, I will become fit for the heart (mind) of one like you who have perfect qualities in the other birth by always meditating on you. If you do not marry me of the form of Rukmini, I will remain on your chest in the form of Sri Lakshmi.(49)

Where Srimad Bhagavatam says Mata Lakshmi assumed this devine form of mata Rukmini which is equal to Lord Narayana in every way during dwapar yug to please Sri Hari.

1. Appearance of mata Rukmini.

Where Harivamsa and Srimad Bhagavatam give detailed information about Mata Rukmini from her appearance leelas to her Mahaprasthan leelas(disappearance), Rukminisha Vijaya Mahakavya has specifically focused to describe the divine union and marriage of Sri Rukmini-Krishna.

According to Harivamsa during the appearance of mata Rukmini all gods including Brahma dev request mata Mahalakshmi to incarnate in the house of king Bhismaka.

Bhagavati Rukmini is the supreme goddess, the enternal consort and energy of Lord Krishna. She is depicted in the scriptures as an incarnation of Goddess Mahalakshmi, and she is also depicted as the devoted and loving wife of Lord Krishna. Her undying love and devotion to Lord Krishna are central themes in the scriptures.

35-40. Krishna saw, near the temple, Rukshmini, the best of beauties, like unto the burning flame of fire, as if she were the goddess of illusions descended on earth, or the goddess earth herself coming out of the nether region, or the very goddess Shri (the goddess of prosperity) the foremost of damsels, gentle like the rays of the moon, and separated from her lotus, coming down on earth as his wife. That damsel of dark-blue hue and large eyes, Rukshmini, was seated on a car. And though the gods even could not see her with their mind Krishna could see her.

17. At that time Bhishmaka’s daughter, the very collection of the beauties of the three worlds, ever captivating Narayana, was doubly beautified by that celestial flower.

सुदुष्करासौ सुतरां दुराशिषो ह्यसुंभराया निकृतिं जुषः स्त्रियाः ॥ ५४ ॥

~Harivamsa, Vishnu parva, chapter 99

41-43. Seeing the beautiful Rukshmini, the foremost of damsels, clad in a blue raiment, matchless in the world at that time for her beauty, fame and grace Krishna’s desire grew powerful like fire to which clarified butter is offered and his mind was attracted by her. Thereupon consulting with Rama before the Vrishnis he made up his mind for stealing her away.

Lord Krishna said: O goddess! In all the houses, I have not noticed such a loving wife like you who, at the time of your marriage disregarded all the suitor-monarchs assembled (at your place) and ḍespached a Brāhmaṇa-emissary with a confidential message to me of whom you have merely heard good accounts only.

कृष्णपत्न्योऽविशन्नग्निं रुक्मिण्याद्याः तदात्मिकाः ॥ २० ॥

27. O you, having lotus eyes, dispelling unwholesome smell, it increases fragrance, and it serves the purpose of a lamp in night.
